Rhonda Cosgriff Designs started in Johnston, Iowa, serving the vibrant Des Moines Metro area, including Johnston. This web development agency’s journey began in the heart of the Hawkeye State, and it carries a rich legacy of entrepreneurship in its DNA on multiple branches of her family tree.
Rhonda Cosgriff, the visionary behind the agency, hails from a family of entrepreneurs with a deep connection to the Johnston and Grimes areas. Her family’s entrepreneurial spirit runs deep, with her parents and grandparents on both sides being builders. This heritage of craftsmanship and development has had a profound influence on Rhonda’s approach to business.
Her grandfather was the president of the Des Moines Homebuilders Association with a construction office and home in Johnston. He moved his family out to Dallas County in the early 80’s, near the “Cemetery in the middle of the road”.
He built a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired modern ranch home, which is just west-southwest of Jordan Creek Mall now. The Granquist house was built out there also but was torn down when the road expansion was done, which moved things around the cemetery in the middle of the road, a local landmark. Here is Daniel H. Cosgriff’s “President of the H.B.A. of Des Moines” gavel and desk weight from his construction company where Rhonda worked for her grandparents and parents from 12 on.
The family’s history in the area dates back generations, with Rhonda’s ancestors (McClain) having played a pivotal role in founding Grimes, Iowa.
In the photo above, you will see John Kraber Anderson, one of Rhonda’s great-grandfathers, who followed his family out to the Grimes area. This was the second homestead John had built it was where the truck stop is along the west side of I80/35 between the Douglas and Hickman exits, the first being on the land that is uncle-in-law owned. that was part of the land that is now Living History Farms bc they sold it to the Flynn family, who built the Flynn mansion, which is in the museum today. John’s son built a homestead west of this house that is still there today, the Anderson Homestead. John’s other son Will was featured in the centennial newspaper article for Grimes; the cover read “old man Grimes” and showed Will on the 100-year anniversary of the town him McClain ancestors founded.
Their legacy is etched into the very fabric of the multiple communities around the central Iowa region, and this strong sense of connection to the region has been a driving force for Rhonda’s decision to establish her agency’s roots in Johnston and De Soto, Iowa.
