Obituary for Carol Ann Smith (Brafford)
Carol Ann Smith (Brafford), born December 9, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. A lifelong resident of Johnston, Iowa, Carol was a proud graduate of Johnston High School. She is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Everett Brafford, her brothers Wayne and Norman, and her sisters Charlene and Jean.
On January 20, 1961, Carol married the love of her life, Danny Smith. Their remarkable union of nearly 64 years was built on unwavering love, commitment, and shared memories, serving as an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they created a beautiful family and a legacy of devotion.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband, Danny; her daughters, Kim Cosgriff (Todd Nelson) and Kris (David) Quinn; her cherished granddaughters, Rhonda Cosgriff, Lindsey (Ryan) Petrucceli, Janelle (John) Rogalke, Allison Quinn, and Nikki (Chris) Miller; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Kai, Jia, Kamden, Evelyn, Gavin, Nash, and Cora. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Carol dedicated over 20 years of her career as a bookkeeper at Embers and later spent 10 years as the bookkeeper for Results by Kim. Her meticulous attention to detail and professionalism left a lasting mark on the businesses she served. Beyond her career, Carol was deeply committed to serving her community through her involvement in TTT (Tri-T). Through this organization, she helped sponsor children to attend summer camp each year. Carol poured her heart into ensuring these children had everything they needed, from supplies to heartfelt encouragement, creating opportunities that would leave a lasting impact on their lives. This outreach work was one of her greatest joys and a testament to her compassionate spirit.
Carol will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her kindness, and her unwavering generosity. She loved her community and took pride in helping others, leaving a legacy of love and service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly to the family to be distributed later.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 30th from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Lynn Leigh Lounge inside Fairfield Inn & Suites at 207 Crocker Street Des Moines, Iowa 50309
Carol Ann Smith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
